Our Students

OUR STUDENTS ARE AT THE HEART OF WHAT WE DO

At any year group, students can discover a wealth of opportunities to pursue passions or explore new possibilities, whether it's taking centre stage, joining a new sports team, building a robot, or creating a masterpiece.

STUDENT COUNCIL

An entirely student-led organisation comprised of representatives from all year groups. Their goal is to initiate and maintain positive change throughout the school community.

CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES

We believe in the all-round development of our students, and with our diverse co-curricular programme we encourage our students to develop a deeper range of skills and experiences outside of the classroom. Our goal is to provide your child with the tools to excel academically, socially and personally.

PE AND SPORTS

Our broad and balanced curriculum allows all students to access the different aspects of Physical Education. A wide range of sports clubs are also offered to provide further opportunities to participate in alternative activities and to compete in competitive school sport.

THE ARTS

Our students have classes and extra-curricular options for music, band, strings, dance, drama, choir, digital and visual arts.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

The British International School, Gambia has a core commitment to the all-round (holistic) development of each child. Through a range of planned community service and fundraising activities we provide appropriate opportunities for students of all ages to develop a respectful and caring sense of social responsibility towards other people and the environment on both a local and global scale.

STEM

Although STEM subjects encompass four distinct strands of education, they are primarily concerned with one overriding skill: problem solving. From following scientific methods to writing code, to uncovering the value of variables, STEM subjects provide our students the single most valuable skill in any industry: working together to find solutions to pressing needs.

BISG has chosen to increase its investment in STEM subjects because they lead to the competencies not only valued by universities and employers, but like skeleton keys, are skills that will open doors leading to new avenues of discovery. We can only be optimistic about our future if we know that the next generation has the skills necessary to create new solutions for our world’s problems – those that are known, and those we have yet to face.
